SUMMER TREAT

Summer is right around the corner. And like us, our pups enjoy a refreshing treat. Watch how when we’re sitting in the shade, having a really yummy popsicle or even an ice cream cone, our dogs show up. It’s clear they’re hoping to hypnotize us with those big, round, begging eyes, into giving them a bit…Or a lot.  Though it’s cute to see them that happy, these sugary treats best for their tummy.

In this blog post, we’ll l give you a super easy, healthy treat idea that will cool your furry ones down this summer!

Think about what pups like to nibble:  meaty and doughy stuff, like a piece of a sandwich that “falls” from your hand or a bit of pasta bolognese that ends up in their bowl after dinner. Not only is this kind of food is a nightmare to their health, it’ s really heavy on their stomach.  Digesting it takes time so your pup will sloth around for a while after eating. So along with a cooling treat, we’ll show some healthy treat options you can use.

Peanut Butter
Rich in protein, healthy fats, niacin, vitamin B, and vitamin E.

Carrots
Full of vitamin A, beta-carotene, and fiber.

Low-fat Cheese (If your pup is not lactose intolerant, of course… no one likes a gassy pup.)
Tons of calcium and protein.

Plain Yogurt (Again..be aware of the lactose.)
Other than the calcium and protein, it’s also good for your dog’s digestion.

Blueberries and Blackberries, and Strawberries
They are basically balls of antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Apple Slices (without stems and core, obviously!)
They will feed your pup with tons of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Pumpkin (without the spices!)
Packed and I mean PACKED with fibers, beta-carotene, and vitamin A.

Watermelon (without the seed)
Paws down, one of the yummiest summer treats! It’s full of water, which is super important to keep the furry ones hydrated (you still have to give them water though), along with fibers, vitamin A and C.

Green peas
Green peas are low in calories and high in many nutrients, making them a healthy treat for your dog.

Potatoes/Sweet potatoes
They are filled with vitamin A, which is important for your dog’s eye health and immune system.

Coconut/oil and fruit
Feeding coconut meat or coconut oil to dogs as an occasional treat has been anecdotally claimed to benefit their skin and fur.

Mango
They provide several vitamins and minerals, in addition to lots of fiber.

Bananas
They are full of fiber and other vitamins and minerals.

This is only a few of the many foods your dog can eat. But remember, all of these foods must be given for your pups in moderation. Ok? MODERATION.

Now, let’s get into the summer treat!

All you need are frozen berries and watermelon.

Yup…That’s it. Just blend it all together and give them one or two tablespoons.
We suggest you do a fresh serving every time you do this one since the watermelon can go bad quite fast, even in the fridge.
